In This Week’s Courier

This week’s East Allen Courier carries two letters to the editor about the Cedar Creek Township Board race. One is from Jim Berger, a Republican who has served on the township board for the past twenty years, endorsing Rob. The other is from Rob.

Jim Berger: “I would also like to endorse Robert J. Pfister.”

Letter to the Editor

I have been an elected member of the Cedar Creek Township Advisory Board for the past 20 years. There have been many great people serving in township government during these years. After researching the current candidates for Cedar Creek Advisory Board, I hope you vote for fellow Republicans Keith Amstutz and Taylor Pepple.

I would also like to endorse Robert J. Pfister. He has attended our meetings and has learned a great deal about township government. When elected, these three board members will continue to lead our township in the right direction.

Remember to vote on or before Nov. 3.

Advisory Board Member,

Rob’s Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor

Local elections don’t draw the same interest or engagement as those for national or statewide office. That’s a shame. Local government is where we each can make a difference. These races are often decided by a handful of votes. In May, the primary for Cedar Creek Township Trustee was decided by five votes, 585 to 580. One engaged citizen can shape what happens in our township more effectively than any of us can statewide or nationwide. And it is here, among neighbors, that cooperation, good faith, and mutual respect can still guide our public life – even when we see things differently.

I am a candidate for one of three seats on the Cedar Creek Township Board. I grew up here, own a home here, and run a small business here. I love this community.

Next week’s election will decide who stewards our township’s tax dollars and taxing authority – and maybe even whether we continue to have our own township at all. Earlier this year the General Assembly passed Senate Enrolled Act 270. Under that law, every township will be scored. Those that don’t make the grade will have to merge out of existence by 2029, before the terms on this ballot are up. The scoring hasn’t been completed, but odds are that some townships in our area will not survive.

The best way to keep Cedar Creek Township is to run it well. That means regular public meetings, scheduled in advance, with agendas published beforehand. It means a user-friendly website that makes the township’s books and records open and public. And it means livestreaming meetings and making them available on YouTube. They say that sunshine is the best disinfectant.

I would be grateful for your support and your vote on Nov. 3.
